Updates from the Technology Department

Google Drive/Workspace Update Coming in June

This is a message from Google for all BTPS users, just a heads up :)

Some of your users will be impacted by an update to multiple-location Drive files. BTPS has set this to “always create shortcuts” when multiple-location Drive files are found.

Starting on June 27, 2022 and in the weeks thereafter, we will be replacing multiple-location Drive files with shortcuts. Any impacted users in your Google Workspace domain will start seeing an in-product notification banner about two weeks before the replacement starts. The banner will notify them about the change and will point them to a support article with more info. The migration will take place automatically—no action will be required from your users.

Updates from the Facilities Department

This week the Facilities Department will be welcoming our summer students who will be joining us for the next four months.  Our students become a very important part our Facilities team.  They assist with lawn care, painting, minor renovations, as well as plumbing and electrical tasks.

Now that spring has sprung, we are getting our schools’ track and field facilities ready for the upcoming season.  We are floating our tracks and rototilling our jumping pits.  Our staff are also currently providing support for our schools’ grad ceremonies during this exciting time of year for our graduating students.   In preparation for our summer projects, we are also reviewing and coordinating materials and contractors.  Our projects include reroofing two schools, refinishing gym floors, lighting retrofits, a parking lot upgrade, flooring upgrades, as well as regular maintenance.

On behalf of all the BTPS custodial staff, we would like to wish Jeannie Sorochan a long happy retirement!  Jeannie was hired March 1995 as a full-time custodian.  For 27 years, she has been making J.R. Robson sparkle with her friendly smile and upbeat personality.  Thank you, Jeannie, for your contribution to making J. R. Robson a great place to learn and work.

After a well-deserved spring break, our custodial staff are back to work following the Enhanced Cleaning Protocols.  Thanks goes out to all staff for minimizing clutter and encouraging tidiness in our schools.  Your efforts are appreciated!

2022 Town of Wainwright Walk 'n' Roll Challenge

Here's how it works:

  • From May 1 to August 31, walk or bike to your destination – leave your car at home!

  • Wainwright residents will be able to register their ‘trips’ HERE starting on May 1 to August 31.  Results for each participating community will be announced.

  • A trip must involve reaching a destination by walking, biking or any other non-motorized means – not just walking or biking for recreation or exercise.

  • The distance of each trip is not important.

  • The ‘to' and ‘from' portion of each trip is counted as 2 trips in total.

  • Students and schools are encouraged to register all of their trips when they walk or bike to school each day or when classes walk to the pool or other field trips.

  • The Town that records the most ‘trips' wins! The Challenge is a friendly competition between Wainwright, Rocky Mountain House & Stettler.

  • Participants can win monthly draws for prize packs!

  • Walk ‘n' Roll this summer! It's great for  you and our planet!
